Do Kids Love Snow days?

Assuming the role of Headmaster has all kinds of unique privileges, not least of which is getting to call the (in)famous snow day!  At last I could live my boyhood dream and cancel school.  I would be a hero to children, and protect their right to have fun at home on days when the weather isn’t cooperating.  I would be a little peoples’ champion.  Or so I thought.

I always thought kids absolutely loved snow days.  And they do.  However I recently learned that a child’s undying love for the snow day can be a bit of a paradox.  As I walked the halls of Foundation earlier this month on a day when the weather seemed ominous for the next, I learned something new about the kids in our school.  They have mixed feelings about snow days.  “I hope it ISN’T a snow day tomorrow!” “I want to come and play with my friends!”  “It might be a snow day – awesome.  But wait, then school is cancelled…”  The paradox? Our kids love snow days, but they don’t want to miss school!

Foundation always amazes me with its power to transform children.  Our school is a place where it actually makes the awesomeness of snow days a question mark.  Kids love their teachers, they love each other, they love their Lord, and they love their school.  What a blessing to be part of such a unique and prospering school community!
