R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  It’s a catchy song and it’s the motto of our classroom.  Here’s what it stands for:

R – Relax: 1,2,3 Breathe!  (Before reacting to a person or situation pause for a moment.)

E – Equal:  I am not better than you!  You are not better than me!  We are equal!

S – Smile:  If you don’t have a smile, I’ll give you one of mine!

P – Polite:  Say “please” and “thank you” and “how do you do?”

E – Effort:  I will always do my best!

C – Communicate:  Words have power!  (I can choose to hurt or help myself and others with my words.)

T – Truth:  I promise to tell the truth!

This motto is based on the promise of Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all of these things only through Christ who gives me His strength.”

So, if you ask a grade 1 or 2 student about R-E-S-P-E-C-T, they may not be able to sing you the catchy song but they will be able to tell you with words and actions what it means in our classroom.
