'My child loves to learn!'

Child-Like Faith

Child-Like Faith

Kids never cease to impress.  Somehow they have a way of getting into our hearts, and taking us by surprise.  God uses their child-like faith to speak to us in the most remarkable ways.  Friday morning worship was a reminder, for me, of what my faith should really be like.

Last week our theme for worship was ‘No Fear’!  We listened to the story of Elisha, and how he was fearless despite a whole army bearing down on him.  He was fearless because he had faith to see the heavenly army that was on his side.  If God is for us, then who can be against us!

As I shared this truth with the kids, I should have expected that God would want to teach me the same lesson through them.  It amazed me how true the lesson was for kids who have child-like faith.  They accept it so wholeheartedly – God is big, He loves me, He WILL take care of me. Simple.  We all need faith like that!

Unbeknownst to me, one of our grade two students wanted to share a verse in the middle of our service.  At her request, I let her come and read her verse at the front.  She flopped opened her bible to where her finger had been anxiously holding the page throughout our service.  Psalm 23.  She read the words softly, and confidently.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

For that student, those words were completely true.  The Lord is her shepherd.  It should not come as a surprise, but whenever I try to impart God’s word to the children at Foundation Christian School, they invariable and with incredible suitability, teach his word to me.  That we would all believe with child-like faith, with faith like the children at our school, that God is truly with us.  What a relief that would bring.

 Give your fears and worries over to God.  For a little perspective on this, check out this video:

In Him,
