Running the Race at Foundation Christian School!

Foundation Christian School high jump.Yesterday Mr. Ferber opened his daily devotional book and turned to May 6, preparing to share it with his class.  The topic: running the race.

Now normally this wouldn’t be overly interesting, except that yesterday, after already having been moved for rain, was Foundation Christian School’s annual track and field meet.  Seems like God made the entire track and field day into an object lesson for the children.  I marvel at His sovereignty!

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 says:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Yesterday was not only an object lesson for the children, but for me also.  I watched them running, faces red, sweat dripping, heart beating so hard you could almost see it.  I saw the determination, and focus as they jumped.  I heard the guttural noices – urraaghh! – as they hurled shots and balls as far as they could.  They put everything into that competition.  Layed it all on the line.  Held nothing back.  They competed in such a way as to get the prize.  That is exactly how we should live for Jesus – holding nothing back, giving our all.  In light of His mercy and grace, how else could we live?
