give thanks in all circumstances“Thanks, amen.”  Generally, that is the format of a thanksgiving suppertime prayer.  We recall various anecdotes of our lives and then summarily tell God, “thanks…amen.”  The exact wording and cadence of the prayer changes from table to table, but generally the elements remain the same.  Usually, we only thank God for the ‘good stuff’ too.

Scripture, however, teaches a different kind of thankfulness.  While the tradition of thanksgiving is wonderful, and thanking God with our lips is an excellent way of praising God, there is more to it.  Romans 12 beseeches us to be living sacrifices, and Thessalonians directs us to be thankful in all circumstances, the good, the bad, and even the ugly.  In other words, in every moment we should live with a wild intensity and radical thankfulness, making the most of it for God.

The kids at Foundation Christian School live with that inspiring intensity.  They rarely miss an opportunity, rarely waste a second, of enjoying all that God has given.  That is true thankfulness.  Enjoying ALL that HE has given ALL the time.  Children remind us to be thankful for each day.  If we are truly thankful for the life he is given us, we will live it to the fullest every day.

So let’s be radical.  Let’s be thankful for all things, at all times, and live fully in each moment.
