turkeyIt’s all about gorging, right?  Turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry, sweet potatoes, pie, pie, pie.  Repeat.  I love eating at Thanksgiving, and really, who doesn’t?  But we all know this isn’t what thanksgiving is all about.  So what is the point of this national holiday?  Actually, on January 31, 1957, the Canadian Government instituted the holiday, and its purpose, with this proclamation:

“A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.”

Incredible!  It is all about God, and not just any God, but ALMIGHTY God!  It’s about thanking Him for all he has provided.  Even our Government recognized the importance of pausing to remember that all we have is truly His, and that He is deserving of our thanks.

Over the coming days you may be sourcing the perfect turkey, or phoning up great aunt Goldie for her perfect stuffing recipe.  You may be looking for the most unique cornucopia, or some incredible decorative napkins to adorn your harvest table.  In the midst of it all, let’s remember together that we have God to thank for all of it.

Thanks God!
