More Than a Teacher
The role of a teacher is changing. We know that a teacher does more than convey basic facts about the world. Teachers present a way of seeing life and God.
In the law it still states that teachers are in loco parentis which is Latin for ‘in the place of parents’. Increasingly, though, we see a shift to this meaning ‘instead of parents’. Parents are often left out of important decisions about their children, and teachers have to represent the values of culture rather than the values of Christian parents.
At Foundation Christian School we know that teachers are more than instructors. We embrace our in loco parentis role. Our teachers and our parents are partnering together in the education of children. Our teachers are instructors. They are mentors. They are moral guides. They are the hands and feet of Jesus. They are in closer partnership with parents to help shepherd children in Christ centered learning and faith.
You may wonder what this looks like practically? It means that a crying kindergarten student can have a hug. It means the struggles of children aren’t hidden from their parents. It means we pray with our students, and tell them we love them (because we do!). It means we express the love of Jesus everyday!
